Colors of Fall & Pumpkin Spiced Latte

It's that beautiful time of the year again. Fall is in full bloom with leaves changing their colors daily. Temperatures here are finally cool enough to snuggle up with the little ones around the fireplace, and warm up with some hot chocolate. Or if you addicted to coffee like me, a pumpkin spiced latte does the trick to get me into fall and winter spirit. I made my own little Starbucks version the other day, and I thought you guys might like it too. Look below for the recipe:)

The holidays are uproaching quickly, and things are being extra busy lately, so, I decided to take a little break from my design work yesterday, and have some fun in the kitchen. My little helpers and I  baked a pumpkin/whole wheat bread, and persimmon cookies from the last view persimmons we had left on the tree.  We even had time for  a little walk and enjoyed the beautiful colors of autumn.

To make 2 pumpkin spiced lattes:

400 ml Whole Milk
1 Star Anise
1/2 Cinnamon Stick
1/2 teaspoon ground Cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground gloves
1/3 cup canned pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon Honey
200 ml brewed Espresso, or very strong coffee

Top with: (Optional)
10 oz Whipped cream
1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Place Star Anise with Cinnamon Stick in a pot with Milk. Bring to a boil.Meanwhile, place pumpkin, cardamom, glove, and pure vanilla extract in the bowl of a mixer. Beat until combined and smooth. Slowly add the spiced hot milk, and coffee. Pour into two cups. Add the whipped topping and sprinkle with the pumpkin pie spice. That's it. Hope you like it!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!!

Studio happenings and a Sneak Preview

Lots of things going on here in the studio. I'm trying to wrap up several projects before the end of the year. Well... I'm hoping. I have to admit, it is not easy when you have two babies calling for attention, and three older ones going through their teenage years. But like my Mother lovingly says... "that's what you wanted, Diana!
She is right. Having a big happy family is what I want most, and at times, especially stressful times, I have to remind myself that regardless of my carrier dreams, I am a mom first, and I need to make sure they grow up happy. So, most of the time my nice planned out schedule for the day is not working out. That means for me to get anything done, I  have to do most of my Artwork early in the morning, at nap-time, and late evening when kids are in bed. I'm sure you know the feeling, all you amazing moms out there.

Ahem... I'm not here to complain today:) Here is the wrap-up and a little sneak preview teaser :)

Just finished this piece for a client. "Bless our Child" is a soft pink and cream sponged canvas. The outer sides are painted in light green for contrast. I painted the same light green and pink Rosary around the oval and adorned the cross with pink swarovski crystals. The canvas is then lightly glossed and dusted lightly with shimmer powder for that extra touch for a sweet little girl. A special little plaque held by a little angel reads "May you always be happy!"
The Canvas measures 16"W x 16" H. No framing necessary.

                                                                       **********

I have a little secret I have been working on the past 18 months. It involves my art, and it is very dear to my heart. I'm putting together the finishing touches. This is all I'm going to reveal at this time, but it would allow me and my little business to spread the wings a bit further.

But, for right now its safe to say.  Here is a little sneak preview of newest Artwork I'll be releasing next week.

I would love to here from you moms,  if you are going through the same, and how you are handling successfully family and carrier?

Have a beautiful weekend everyone!

Pumpkins & Candy Apples

Its Pumpkin time. Halloween is our favorite holiday. Our weekend was filled with more crafting, baking cookies, and more decorating.
We picked our last harvest from our trees :( I'm not kidding, we must have picked close to 100 apples, and for the first time (in 6 years) we have persimmons. Will have to think of what to make with all the fruit.
The girls wanted to give "Candy Apple" making a try. They were very easy to make, and turned out so delicious. We had so much fun.
I included a little recipe for you guys!

Candy Apples

Yield: 12 candy apples
Prep Time: 30 min
Cook Time: 30 min

Ingredients:

12 small red or green apples (we used Granny Smith)
12 lollipop or popsicle sticks
3 cups white sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
1 cup water
½ teaspoon red food coloring
You also will need a Candy Thermometer!

Directions:

Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert the lollipop sticks or popsicle sticks so that they are firmly positioned in the apples. Set the apples aside on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and coated with cooking spray.
Combine the sugar, corn syrup and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring it to a boil and cook the mixture until a candy thermometer reaches 300ºF (the hard crack stage).
Remove the candy mixture from the heat and carefully stir in the red food coloring. You may have to add more than the designated ½ teaspoon, depending on the quality and strength of your food coloring.
One by one, carefully dip the apples into the candy mixture, swirling to coat them thoroughly and allowing any excess to drip back into the pan. Transfer the coated apples to the prepared cookie sheet and allow them to cool until the candy has fully hardened.

If the candy mixture gets too hard during the dipping process, simply re-heat it over medium heat and continue coating the apples.

Enjoy! And Boo!

Happy Fall !

My family and I like to take short trips over the course of the year... just to stay sane, as our workloads at times can become very heavy, and whenever a big vacation is out of question.
As I mentioned yesterday, we love staying at the Bellagio, in Las Vegas.
We like taking the kids to attractions, such as seeing other hotels themes, shows, amusement parks, and particularly we love the botanical garden here at the Bellagio. Over the years we have come here at different seasons, and I have made tons of photos of the ever changing garden. However, I never actually posted them. One of those days I'll go trough our photo archives and make a special tap for great vacation spots to go with your kids. And yeah - Vegas has some nice attractions for kids too :)
So, here are pics we took this past weekend. Enjoy!
